How Do We Clean Your Home Staircase Carpets?
For the dry-cleaning method, we use a special powder which we apply by hand and then we use a unique machine with brushes that embeds the powder into the carpet. This cleans and treats the carpet.
We then use a professional vacuum to remove the powder. The dry-cleaning method is less efficient than the wet-cleaning method, but it is recommended for special types of carpets, including viscose and sisal. There is no drying time for this method as we use a dry powder.
The other method is called wet cleaning. For this method, we use our special professional carpet cleaning machines installed with heating elements, which clean with different temperatures between 0 and 120 degrees.
We also use different cleaning products with different pH levels depending on the type of carpet. The drying time for the wet cleaning method could be between 2 โ 24 hours depending on the condition of the carpet and the type of carpet.
If the carpet is extremely dirty it will take longer to dry. To speed the drying time, we can turn the heating on and open the windows for ventilation. The higher the temperature the quicker the carpet will dry, depending on the type of carpet.
Is the staircase part of the hallway for cleaning?
The staircase is not included as part of the hallway for cleaning. We charge for the hallway, stairs and landing separately.
How long does it take to dry the carpet after the cleaning?
The dry-cleaning method dries instantly. We use a dry powder, so there is no waiting time for the carpet to dry.
For the wet cleaning method, the first step is to hoover the carpet using our high-quality hoover, to remove any loose dirt or dust. We then use the pre-spray which we brush into the stairs by hand (for larger areas, we use a machine) and treat any stains.
After that, we clean the carpet with our hot water extraction machine. If the carpet is in good condition, normally it will dry in 2-4 hours but if the carpet is in bad condition it can take up to 24 hours. Carpets made from natural materials will take longer to dry than synthetic ones.
During the drying process, it is fine to walk on the carpet using plastic overshoes that we can provide but we highly recommend you do not walk on the carpet in shoes or slippers. This can be dangerous as sometimes the wet carpet can leave a wet substance on your feet, which can then be very slippery when you tread onto another floor. Furniture can be put back onto a wet carpet as long as you are using plastic or foil protectors, which we can also provide.
We have turbo dryers that will dry the carpets in 30 minutes, there is an additional charge for this which we provide in our premium service, please feel free to ask a member of staff for more details on this. Please note - viscose fabric is required to be dried with the turbo dryer as otherwise, it can dry unevenly with patches.
Other ways to speed up the drying include, putting the heating on, opening the windows and using a fan. Airflow is more important than heat when it comes to drying.
Depending on the type of carpet, during the cleaning of the carpet, it can smell. As soon as the carpet is dry the smell will disappear. We can also use deodorisers if the customer requires them.
What machines and products are best for carpet stairs cleaning?
We use Prochem machines and products as they are professional, safe and eco-friendly. Prochem is a US company and is the leader in the cleaning industry at the moment.
We have a number of different machines for different types of cleaning and there are different sizes of machines depending on the size of the cleaning.
These are the machines we use:
- Ashbys Enforcer โ This is a big industrial machine with 3 vacuum motors and a high PSI pressure pump, with 2 heating elements that we can adjust, and also regulate the temperature and the pressure of the water, at the same time.
- Prochem Powermax โ This is the biggest machine with use for domestic cleaning. It has 2 vacuum motors and a standard, regulated pressure pump with 1 heating element. This machine is used when we clean all the carpets in the house.
- Prochem Galaxy - We have a middle-range machine which has 1 vacuum motor and 1 pump. This is best for small jobs, such as one bedroom or one sofa etc.
- Prochem Bravo โ This is our very small machine that is used for spots and stain removal only.
- SEBO Automatic X7 ePower 91501GB Upright Vacuum Cleaner โ we use this for vacuuming the carpet before we start to treat and clean it.
- TM3 CRB agitation machine - this is used to brush the shampoo into the fabric, but we cannot use this for stairs. For stairs, we brush and agitate by hand.
Professional Steam Cleaning & Stain Removal London
Most of our machines stay outside, even in the rain, and we only bring the hoses in. We use different pre-spray products with different pH levels depending on the type of carpet you have. It is very important to use the level of pH or we can damage the carpet.
Water is around 7 pH and water is safe for all materials. For pre-sprays, lower pH products of a maximum of 8 pH, are used especially for natural materials. Higher pH level pre-sprays are used for synthetic materials.
Stain removal products also have different PH levels. We can remove any stains such as coffee, red wine, sauces, marker pens, paint etc.
We recommend that you do not try to remove the stain yourself with shop brought products as this can often make the stain worse and more difficult for us to remove. We also offer protection for your carpet and can apply Scotchgard protector, which is water repellent, so that any spillages can be easily soaked up with some kitchen towel.
All of our products are 100% safe for Pets, Children and Allergy sufferers.
COMMON NATURAL FIBRES: WOOL, SISAL, JUTE, COTTON, COIR, VELVET, BAMBOO.
To determine which type of carpet you have, our technicians use a method which requires removing a small bit of fabric (on the stairs there are usually loose bits we can use) and burning it.
They have passed training courses and learned to recognise the different smells from different materials, and they assess the way the material feels after burning it. Some carpets are made of a mixture of natural and synthetic materials. In this case we will treat the carpet as a natural carpet to ensure that no damage is done it.
If we are cleaning a synthetic carpet, we can use a higher pH cleaning product and a higher temperature, for a deeper clean. Synthetic fabric will only absorb 8% of spillages (and cleaning products) so it is easier to remove stains from and will also dry more quickly after the cleaning. For synthetic carpets we can use spots and stain remover products, close to bleaching, to remove stains.
COMMON SYNTHETIC FIBRES: NYLON, ACRYLIC, POLYESTER, POLYPROPYLENE, RAYON.
If we are cleaning a carpet made with natural materials, we must use a maximum of 8 pH to make sure we will not damage the carpet and keep the colour safe. The natural material fabrics absorb 30% of cleaning products and spillages - so that means it will take longer to dry.
We cannot use the usual spots and stain remover products as they are too strong and could damage the carpet. We have lower PH products to use for the natural materials.
After the carpet has been cleaned, we use a pH meter to check that the pH level of the material is back at a normal level. We highly recommend for your carpet to be cleaned once a year to prevent a build-up of dust and bacteria, particularly if you have a wool carpet.
